West African musicians are being lined up to play a massive concert in Niger’s capital Niamey, to raise money for the 2.5 million people who need urgent food aid.
The concert has been organised by Niger’s first lady Laraba Tandja, and will take place on August 6th,
The line up will include African acts DJ Christy B, TV5 Fouka Fouka and Kilabongo from Ivory Coast, as well as native Niger acts Queen ZM, Kamikaze and Kaydan Gaskiya.
Niger is by far the worst hit country for food starvation, with some 150,000 children acutely mal-nourished, and is now facing a massive crisis, putting the entire Sahel region at risk.
The concert follows just five weeks on from Live 8, which has been criticised by some for it’s lack of African acts on the bill.
