Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills has admitted that he was probably too old to host the Breakfast Show after Chris Moyles.
Mills, who is 39, recently signed a three year deal at the station and currently hosts the 1-4pm show every day.
However, he was overlooked in favour of Nick Grimshaw when it came to replacing Moyles earlier this year. It is believed that Radio 1 is looking to attract a younger audience and Mills appreciates he is not the man for that job.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Mills said: "I don't think I would wanna do it now, I honestly don't," he said. "Chris Moyles has been there for such a long time, why would you replace him with me now?
"Radio 1 is a young station, it's a generational station and age-wise and genre-wise, if you replace me for him you're replacing like for like."
Speaking about Grimshaw's chances of success, Mills was positive saying: "I think people will get to like it. I think a new younger load of listeners will really like it and, yes, there will be a lot of older listeners who won't like it. But that's what Radio 1's supposed to do. You're not supposed to like it if you're 45."
Fellow Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac also backed her close friend to succeed when speaking to Gigwise earlier in the week.
