It's official - Taylor Swift is the world's most popular star, as her single 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' has become the fastest selling single by a female artist of all time.

In the week ending 19 August 2012, Swift sold 623,000 downloads of her new single, which hit No.1 on iTunes in 25 countries after its release, reports Billboard magazine.

The track tops previous records set by Ke$ha (610,000 sales of her single 'Tik Tok' in a single week) and Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' record, which sold 448,000 downloads in its first week of release. She fell short of taking the all time record however, selling 13,000 few copies than Flo Rida's 636,000 first-week sales of his single 'Right Round' in 2009.

The song is rumoured to be about SWift's ex-boyfriend, and Katy Perry's current squeeze, John Mayer, with Joe Jonas recently declaring that it certainly wasn't about him.

Jonas, another of Swift's ex-boyfriends, has recently stated the song is not about him, saying: "I don't think we've ever tried [to get back together] another time, so I can tell you it's not about me."

Swift has said new album 'Red' is inspired by 'intense relationships', and will feature a duet with British star Ed Sheeran.
