Gossip Girl star and thinking teenager's favourite Penn Badgley has covered Jeff Buckley's 'Lilac Wine' live on stage in the run up to him playing the musician in an iminent biopic.

The actor who plays Dan Humphrey in the popular American show has been cast as Buckley in the upcoming film, 'Greetings From Tim Buckley' which charts the days leading to the singer's emotional performance at his father's infamous tribute concert.

Much to many people's surprise, Badgley isn't actually that bad. Vocally, he seems to have dialled in the Buckley's desperately soft voice, and the sporadic guitar (which he plays on stage) isn't far off either.

The film is the unofficial biopic, with a second film being produced by Buckley's mother Mary Guibert. The producers of 'Greetings From Tim Buckley' were therefore unable to secure the rights to all of the Jeff's songs, however tracks such as 'Lilac Wine' and 'Hallelujah' were covers of Eartha Kitt and Leonard Cohen respectively, so they can be used.

The film will also feature Anthrax's Frank Bello, as well as British singer/songwriter Kate Nash.
