Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones has disputed claims his band are the best of all time, stating his belief that many white bands are 'overrated'.
The band drummer was asked about Rolling Stones status as one of rock n' roll's all time greats in a recent interview with Classic Rock, barely accepting the compliment.
“I don’t believe we’re the greatest rock ’n’ roll band. What about Little Richard? Chuck Berry’s band – there isn’t a better rock ’n’ roll band. That’s where we got it from," he said, modestly.
Adding: “We came close sometimes with Little Queenie or Around And Around. "
“A lot of white bands are vastly overrated,” he continued. “I say white bands because most of the music I love to play on record is by black American musicians, Forties and Fifties stuff.”
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones are currently 'in rehearsals' for a new tour - believed to be taking place toward the end of 2012. The group recently celebrated their 50th anniversary as a band.
