Graham Coxon has revealed his confusion at the widespread belief that their 1994 album 'Parklife' was a celebration of all things English.
The guitarist claims the band were poking fun at English people when they wrote the album, and that the songs were meant to be sarcastic and tongue in cheek.
"A lot of people thought it was a celebration of Englishness, but it was actually very sarcastic," Contactmusic reports Coxon as saying. "The 'Parklife' single wasn't about the working class, it was about the park class: dustbin men, pigeons, joggers - things we saw every day on the way to the studio."
Coxon also revealed his shock at the success of the album, adding: "I was surprised it got so many awards. One or two would've been all right."
Blur this week announced an intimate gig at London's 100 Club in August.
