Florence and the Machine have been forced to cancel their Benicassim 2012 performance as lead singer Florence Welch suffers from vocal problems.

The band were due to appear at the Spanish festival but had to pull out after singer Florence Welch became suddenly ill.

Welch has been advised to rest by doctors, and a statement from the organisers said that she is suffering “acute vocal strain causing swelling of the vocal cords” after a recent performance in Ireland.

The organisers also said: "Given the sudden and unexpected illness suffered by Miss Welch, FIB 2012 organization has been unable to find a substitute in such a small time frame."

The band recently released their tour diary style video for 'Breaking Down'
