Former MP John Prescott has taken delight at the news today that 'Tubthumping' band Chumbawumba called time on their career, mocking the split on Twitter.

The band famously poured a bucket of ice cold water over Prescott, Transport Secretary at the time, at the 1998 BRIT Awards.

Making light of the situation on Twitter, Prescott wrote "Chumbawho? #currentlyresidinginthewherearetheynowfile" before adding: "I might mark Chumbawamba's split by going out and buying their greatest hit album. ‪#boom"

Posting a statement on their official website, Chumbawumba blamed their split on 'life getting in the way'.

"That's it then, it's the end. with neither a whimper, a bang or a reunion. Thirty years of ideas and melodies, endless meetings and European tours, press releases, singalong choruses and Dada sound poetry, finally at an end," reads the statement.
