Damien Hirst has revealed that he considers The Stone Roses 'more important than The Stone Roses in notes penned for the tour brochure for this weekend's Heaton Park shows in Manchester.

Hirst and David Beckham are among the stars to have shared their feelings on the Manchester legends, with The Sun newspaper revealing details of the brochure ahead of this weekend's event. Noel Gallagher and Take That star Mark Owen are also among the celebrities to have penned words for the booklet.

Damien Hirst makes a bold claim on the band's place in modern culture, saying: "The Stone Roses are more important than Picasso."

David Beckham adds: "The Stone Roses was part of my upbringing in Manchester. And being an East End (London) boy, that's saying something."

"Their music has inspired so many people but for me it brings back memories of the most happiest time in my football career, when I started my career at Manchester United.

"The fact that they are back is incredible to see."
