After yesterday’s announcement of this year’s Mercury Music Prize nominees, bookmakers William Hill are already taking bets on who will succeed…
Unsurprisingly the Kaiser Chiefs come out on top, with Bloc Party and old hands Coldplay following in their wake.
The latest odds on all nominees are:
Kaiser Chiefs - ‘Employment’ 4/1
Coldplay – ‘X & Y’ 6/1
Bloc Party – ‘Silent Alarm’ 6/1
KT Tunstall – ‘Eye To The Telescope’ 6/1
The Magic Numbers – ‘The Magic Numbers’ 8/1
Hard-Fi – ‘Stars of CCTV’ 8/1
Antony & The Johnsons – ‘I Am A Bird Now’ 10/1
Maximo Park – ‘A Certain Trigger’ 10/1
Polar Bear – ‘Held On The Tips Of Fingers’ 12/1
Seth Lakeman – ‘Kitty Jay’ 12/1
The Go! Team – ‘Thunder, Lightning, Strike’ 12/1
Graham Sharpe of William Hill said: “It’s a very close year, with superb albums from UK artists representing a diverse range of musical genres. This is reflected in the closeness of odds we’ve given to the 2005 Nationwide Mercury Prize-every album here could be a winner.” …In other words spend, spend, spend.
The winner of the coveted prize will be announced at the ‘Albums Of The Year’ show on September 6.
Last year’s winners, Franz Ferdinand, won £20,000 and have gone on to enjoy international success with their debut, self titled album.
