Justin Bieber has crushed Cheryl Cole's hopes of a No.1 album as his 'Believe' album scores the Canadian star a UK No.1, leaving the former X Factor judge trailing at No.2 with her 'A Million Lights' release.

The surprising result comes one week after Cheryl earned the fastest selling single of the year with 'Call My Name'. Bieber's huge popularity won out though, giving him his first UK number one album.

Elsewhere in the albums chart there were new entries for Carrie Underwood, Slash, Reverend and The Makers and Smashing Pumpkins.

Meanwhile, in the singles chart, Maroon 5 are celebrating their first chart topper with the Wiz Khalifa assisted track 'Payphone'. Bizarrely, the unofficial 'tribute' version of the song, recorded by Precision Tunes is still in the top 100, landing at 85 after debuting in the Top Ten last week.

The only other act to score a new entry this week were girlband Stooshe chalk up a new hit in a quiet week for fresh tracks on the Top 40, debuting at number 4 with their single 'Black Heart'.
