Elbow have claimed that they have written a 'huge' new song, which they will perform for the first time this coming weekend at the Isle Of Wight festival.

Manchester band Elbow will perform directly before headline act Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers on Friday night, with new material in their arsenal.

Speaking about the new song, Craig Potter of the 'One Day Like This' band told the Daily Star: “We’re hoping to play it at Isle Of Wight as it’s shaping up to be one of the big songs on our next album. It’s got huge guitars and it’s quite psychedelic. I’m not sure if it’s a future single, but it sounds the kind of song which will hopefully be a favourite at our gigs.”

Potter also updated fans on the progress of Elbow's forthcoming sixth album, the follow up to 'Build A Rocket Boys'. “We’re already 30% finished, which is a record for us as we’re still touring the last album," he said.

Adding: “Guy’s lyrics are influenced by travelling the world so far, but it could all change. It’s only right near the end of each album that the sound and theme tends to take shape.”

Elbow join a massive line up at Isle Of Wight this weekend. Joining headliners Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam on the bill will be Noel Gallagher, The Vaccines, Biffy Clyro and Tinie Tempah.
