Gotye has tempered his comments about the Glee cover of his hit single 'Somebody That I Used To Love', saying he did not mean to insult anyone.
The Australian singer has tasted huge success with the single but was not impressed with the cover performed on Glee by actors Darren Criss and Matt Bomer.
However, having seen the news blow up yesterday (April 23), Gotye took time out of an LA show last night to set the record straight. "I thought it was really clever to transpose the song to two guys... It was a great idea," he said.
"The nature of using reverb and space in a recording can change your perception of how a sound appeals to you."
Adding: "This xylophone hook in my song - it's kind of dinky not just in the cover version but the original song. Somehow, that becomes 'the Glee cover I hated and Darren Criss is an asshole'."
Gotye, real name Wouter De Backer, had originally said: "The vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it's playing to you from a cardboard box."
Meanwhile, 'Somebody That I Used To Love' recently became the fourth quickest selling single in the US of all time.
