Most people will have heard of The All American Rejects although they may not realise it. Hailing from a small town in Oklahoma they enjoyed chart success with the annoyingly catchy single ‘Swing Swing’ but failed to follow it up with the rest of their debut album. Well it’s time to ‘Move Along’ and find out if the boys can make amends with their second offering.
The angst filled sing along track ‘Dirty Little Secret’ is hard to dislike but it seems like the outcome of what would happen if you merged Busted with the Lost Prophets, shipped them off to America to fall in lust and then sat them down to write a song. Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler continue with the love torn lyrics through ‘Drive’ and ‘Stab My Back’, which spits "I hope that love he gave you was just enough to save you, you nearly broke my heart just look at what your tearing apart".
Title track ‘Move Along’ is yes you guessed it yet another my heart has been trampled on anthem. With all this heart ache going on it’s amazing the band released an album at all. The saving grace is the very polished guitar hooks and simple arrangement, which will keep your foot tapping throughout the album. Without this the sentimental drivel might drive even the most stable person a little bit insane.
Finally making an appearance is ‘Swing Swing’. Sadly though the addition of this just reminds us once again that this is the best the band can do. The album is perfect for those who like their rock music in a pop package; for all its heart break the album does have a strong feel good vibe. It isn’t exactly Weezer but The Rejects will corner the under 18 market in the same way Good Charlotte managed to do it. And if that fails the 4 (very chiselled) guys could all get jobs as poster boys for gap.
