Robert Post - 'Robert Post'There is a distinctive Lennon / McCartney thread running through these five tracks (Gulp!), which is fine if you can pull it off. So does Robert Post? Lets see...

Kicking off with ‘Got None’ -a happy 60’s cool number, Post shows an effective use of strings to provide depth and balance, whilst ‘There’s One Thing’ is well crafted and would sit well in the stereo of your soft top with the wind blowing. It conjures up images of Raybans and Mary Quant make up and ultra white smiles.

‘Silence Makes Him Sick’ sounds like a happier version of ‘Eleanor Rigby’ although the lyrics are anything but that. Vocally there is a strong resemblance to Paul McCartney. ‘Everything Is Fine’ is beautifully put together and doesn’t allow the vocals nor the music to dominate it, itstead it lets both aspects of Post's music work together harmoniously . Once again you cannot help but think McCartney, but as you listen there is enough individuality to make you realise that this really is a new talent.

The final track ‘Come Home’ is too balladic and here the vocals do dominate music that has a beauty of its own. This is a shame because when the instruments do emerge through the vocals they have a haunting quality. So the answer to question…a very definite yes, Robert does manage to pull off his spooky resemblance to Macca yet still manages to prove his ability as a 'hot new thing'. There are four out of the five tracks here that deserve to be in anyone’s collection. Get this and get loved up.
