Six new posters promoting the superhero team-up blockbuster The Avengers have been released in the US.

The movie, which has been retitled Avengers Assemble for the UK market, promises to be one of 2012's biggest movies, as it features some of the biggest names in superheroism.

Each new poster focuses on a different character from the movie, with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chirs Hemsworth), Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), Iron Man (Robert Downey JR), The Hulk and Hawkeye (Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner) and Captain America (Chris Evans) taking centre stage.

Also appearing on the posters is newcomer to the Avengers world is Nick Fury's assistant Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).
