Lil Kim Is Sentenced To One Year And One Day In Prison

Yesterday rapper Lil’ Kim was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, fined $50,000 and sentenced for three years probation after being convicted of conspiracy and federal perjury charges.

She entered the Manhattan court house surrounded security guards, fellow rappers Maino and Freddie Foxx and a crowd of fans, reports AllHipHop.

The jail sentence stems from a shooting that took place outside the offices of Radio station Hot 97 in 2001.

Members of Kim’s entourage were met with members of rival rapper’s Capone-N-Noreaga’s entourage while leaving the station, an argument ensued that escalated into a full scale shoot out that involved a machine gun, and that left one man , associated with Capone-N-Noreaga’s, with a bullet in his back.

At the original trial Kim denied knowing who had been involved, but later two men, her former manger Damion ‘D-Rock’ Butler and bodyguard Suif ‘Gutta’ Jackson - pled guilty to their role in the shootout.

Lil’ Kim was accused of lying 29 times during three court appearances in 2003, including not knowing her ex-manager was at the station that day and denying ever knowing her former bodyguard.

It is unknown whether Lil’ Kim and her lawyers will appeal against her sentence, however, she must surrender herself to the authorities on September 19.

Kim yesterday released a statement that said: "I would like to thank all of my supporters who have stood by my side throughout this entire ordeal. The many prayers and hundreds of letters of support, e-mails and kind words that have poured in have been overwhelming and critical in helping my family, loved ones and myself stay strong during this time of need. Today was a very difficult day for me, but I am no stranger to adversity and will do whatever I need to do so that I can continue to work hard and give back to my family, amazing fans and community."

Lil’ Kim will be 30 years old next week; she is currently finishing her new album and looking into TV work.
