Sony Music has apologised to iTunes users over raising the price of two Whitney Houston albums shortly after the singer’s tragic death on Saturday (11 Feb).
The increase in prices saw Houston’s ‘The Ultimate Collection’ go from £4.99 to £7.99 and her ‘Greatest Hits’ leap from £7.99 to £9.99.
In a statement released by Sony a spokesperson said the "Whitney Houston product was mistakenly mispriced on the UK iTunes store on Sunday. When discovered, the mistake was immediately corrected. We apologise for any offence caused."
It was reported in The New York Times that the inflation in the price was the action of a single employee who did not have the consent from the company to do so.
It is predicted that Whitney Houston will dominate the UK Singles and Albums charts this weekend after her untimely death before this year’s Grammy’s Award Ceremony.
