Metallica: New Album Will Have A Heavier Sound

Metallica have revealed that their next album will have a heavier sound.

The band, who released their collaboration album with Lou Reed, 'Lulu' last year, are currently working on their tenth studio album.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about the new albumt, guitarist Kirk Hammett said: "If Death Magnetic was a logical successor to …And Justice For All, the next album will be a heavier Black Album.

"We're not going to the depths of complexity that we did for Death Magnetic. The stuff we're coming up with is more groove-oriented, a heavier version of what we were doing in the early '90s."

Drummer Lars Ulrich also added that the album will include much shorted songs: "When people talk about the old stuff, they think Justice.

"But look at 'Harvester Of Sorrow' on that album. It's a fairly simple five-minute song. And 'Fuel' is an absolute scorcher live. Right now, I'm thinking shorter, more to-the-point."

Metallica have posted two previously unreleased tracks online – you can listen to them below.

The tracks, which are titled 'Hate Train' and 'Just A Bullet Away', were recorded during band's 2008 ninth studio album 'Death Magnetic', but failed to make the album's final cut.
