Pogues' 1987 track 'Fairytale of New York' has been named as the most played Christmas song of the 21st century.

The track has beat the likes of Wham's Last Christmas, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You, Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody and Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.

'Fairytale Of New York' features vocals from the late singer Kirsty MacColl, who was killed when she was struck by a boat while swimming in Mexico in 2000.

In 2007 Radio bleeped out the word '****' in the track to 'avoid offence' but climbed down after complaints from listeners
