Microsoft will release the dashboard update for the XBox 360 on December 6.
The metro-style download will be available worldwide from that date, Kotaku reports.
The update offers a truly significant overhaul of the user interface, adopting the panel system already seen on Windows Phone and Windows 8 operating systems.
A number of entertainment apps will also be added, including BBC programmes, 4oD, Channel 5 and LOVEFiLM for UK users and Comcast, Verizon, Syfy, TMZ and HBO GO in the US.
Channels will be negotiated using either a controller, Kinect or voice control, which is also being integrated into its new Bing search function.
As was announced at E3, the update will also enable users to adopt Cloud storage, which will be compatible with all games.
