According to Marek Lieberberg, Berlin's Live8 promoter, tight-fisted German companies are refusing to sponsor the event. He commented:
“It is a disgrace that German business does not recognise the relevance of this event and has not gotten involved”
“The German event in Berlin will be financed solely by foreign sponsors and I find that embarrassing and shocking”
German Communications firm Schmidt & Kaiser told Reuters.com that they had contacted 20 to 30 German companies and banks and had received a very limited response. They tactfully declined to name the companies who refused sponsorship.
The Berlin Live8 concert is being headlined by former Beach Boy, Brian Wilson and Green Day.
