Sony have announced the release date for their new handheld console, the Vita, in North America, Europe, Australia and Latin America, which will be February 22, 2012.
Sony president Jack Tretton made the announcement during the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco, but stopped short of revealing what titles would launch with the Vita.
Two different models will be available: a WiFi model that costs $249.99 (€249 / £229.99) and a 3G model for $299.99 (€299 / £279.99).
SCEE president Jim Ryan said in a statement: "PlayStation Vita is an incredible device that offers the best possible portable gaming experiences.
"Its revolutionary mix of features combined with social connectivity, delivers a platform for gamers to play games in a whole new way and to connect with their friends and the world around them.
"We're very excited to launch a portable gaming device that goes beyond anything available on the market and is positioned to deliver the uncompromised gaming experiences consumers have been asking for."
The Vita launches in Japan on December 17 with 26 launch titles planned.
