A week before its release, Battlefield 3 has topped the 2 million mark in pre-orders.

The game's Kevin O'Leary has told Fox Business that the title is doing "very, very well", confirming the large amount of pre-orders placed.

He said: "A couple million out there. We already announced some great numbers so far."

Part of the reason, he belives, is down to the game's release date - Battlefield 3 comes out in time for the Christmas window, whereas previous games in the series had been released in March and early summer.

O'Leary added: "Obviously, holiday season is a great time to get the games out there. New thing for Battlefield, too, coming out in this holiday window, so we're excited about it, to get it out there, get it in people's hands."

Battlefield 3 is released on October 25.
