Battlefield 3 sees players shooting at police officers as part of its campaign.

As part of its rating system, the ESRB mentions that this part of a mission must be completed in order for players to progress.

A spokesman for Electronic Arts told Eurogamer: "I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation. For God's sake, there is a nuke in Paris! Millions of lives are at stake!!"

This contradicts the comments made by Patrick Back earlier this year, who told Digital Spy: "If you put the player in front of a choice where they can do good things or bad things, they will do bad things, go dark side - because people think it's cool to be naughty, they won't be caught," he said.

"We have to build our experiences so we don't put the player in experiences where they can do bad things."

Battlefield 3 is released on XBox 360, PS3 and PC on October 28.

Classic first person shooters...
