Microsoft has released a mandatory update for XBox Live.
The download focuses on a number of system maintenances, and does not come with any new features, such as the upcoming dashboard update.
When released, the new dashboard will feature major overhauls to the console's user interface, such as adopting the Metro panel interface more familiar to Windows Phone and Windows 8 operating systems, and channels that can be navigated either through a controller, Kinect or voice control.
There will also be new entertainment and television streaming services available in the UK, US, Canada and Europe, including BBC, LoveFilm, Blinkbox and 4oD.
Microsoft revealed at Gamescom 2011 that the update will add XBox Live cloud storage, which will be compatible with all games.
The system update is available to download now.
