Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix has said the pioneering online release of their latest album 'The Future Of Medieval' overshadowed the album's physical release.
The group allowed fans to select their own tracklist from 20 songs when the album came out earlier this year.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Rix admitted that the release method confused fans – but singer Ricky Wilson insisted they were still happy.
"The publicity around the 'choose your own version' overshadowed the CD so much that still no-one knows it's out,” Rox said.
Wilson added: "Our record label wanted to release the CD in time for festival season so that everyone knew the new songs.
"I can see that logic, but I'd have waited to release the CD until now, once everyone got their heads around the digital release."
"We wouldn't change a thing about the album. The variety in the songs and the idea of how we released them changed a lot of people's perceptions towards the band."
Kaiser Chiefs are set to embark on a massive UK theatre tour in January next year.
