It seems that the British music industry have been handing out awards as freely as a stranger giving sweets to schoolchildren this week.
The 30th Nordoff-Robbins Silver Clef Awards which raises money for music therapy, has honoured U2 with a lifetime achievement award, The Who with a 30th anniversary award and Live8 organiser Bob Geldof with an international award for his aid work in Africa, BBC news reported yesterday.
U2 front-gimp, Bono, proudly wielded his prize with the words:
“I’m standing here as the lucky member of a great bandâ€
He was right on just one count. He continued by urging the nation to get behind Live8, gushing:
“I don’t think it’s the popstars or the musicians that the politicians are afraid of, it’s the audience.â€
Other winners include Natasha Beddingfield, Lemar and Razorlight.
