Six By Seven have split up after eight years together.

The Nottingham band were due to play gigs at Brixton’s Windmill and Islington Elbow Rooms this week, but cancelled the shows after deciding to call it a day.

The announcement comes just a week after they released their latest long-player ‘Artists, Cannibals, Poets, Thieves’.

The band said in a statement: “After 8 years of being in Six. By Seven, Chris, James and Chris have decided to stop touring and effectively end the group for the foreseeable future. We would like to thank our fans for all of their support over the years.”

They added: “The end of Six.By Seven is not a sad one, as we are proud of our achievements and critical success over the release of 5 fine studio albums.

“It has been a difficult journey of late and we now realise that we have achieved what we set out to do and the 3 remaining members wish to move on and make music without the legacy of Six.By Seven hanging over them.”

Ex-frontman Chris Olley will continue with his side project Twelve. Six by Seven are still planning to release a live album and a ‘best of’, b-sides and rarities album if they get the go-ahead from their former label Mantra, to mark their split.

The band are also planning to play two farewell shows in Nottingham and London and the end of the year, where they hope to have original member Sam Hempton and Paul Douglas playing with them.

As a farewell message, the band said: “Alright then, what a long strange trip it's been, but hey, all things must pass, God bless you all!”
