Alanis Morissette - 'Jagged Little Pill'Alanis Morrisette has become embroiled in an argument between CD retailers in Canada after signing an exclusivity agreement with coffee shop Starbucks.

The singer has given the coffee chain exclusive rights to sell her new album in the US and Canada for the first six weeks of release. HMV Canada has now refused to stock any of her records in response reports the BBC.

HMV North America chief executive Humphrey Kadaner said the decision not to stock Morissette's records was "consistent with the views of the majority of our customers".

The new album is an acoustic version of her mega-successful 1995 record ‘Jagged Little Pill’ and Morrissette has said she did not intend to upset any of the retailers in her homeland. "My intention certainly was not to ruffle feathers in that department," she said.

However, she did defend her decision to sign the deal with Starbucks: "When people walk into Starbucks, there's a real openness and a focus to behold and take in whatever may be on that counter."
