Orlando Bloom Is Keen On Joe Strummer Biopic

Orlando Bloom wants to play Joe Strummer in a biopic of the late singer.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is a huge fan of The Clash frontman, who died in 2002 aged 50, and believes that the punk icon's life would make for a great movie.

Bloom is quoted by Bang! Showbiz as saying: "The life has the highs and lows and complexities to make for a feature film and a great soundtrack. I'd need to brush up my vocal and guitar skills."

The actor also spoke of how Strummer proved to be an inspiration when he played punk band leader The Stain in Sympathy for Delicious, saying: "Actually, you know, I was a bit more of the Ian Brown, from The Stone Roses, school of thought; and also the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, from Oasis. I just thought that Northern - I mean, I didn't do a Manchester accent, I did a broad Northern, because a lot of the great British bands, even the Beatles, they all came from the north of England.

"But I just thought that lent itself really well to the attitude of the character, like, 'We're the best fooking band in the world and fook you if you don't believe it!' You know what I mean? Also, a little bit of Joe Strummer goes a long way in that respect."

Bloom's latest blockbuster, The Three Musketeers, is due for release on October 21.
