Mister E. (Mark Everett) – Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano
Mark Everett, better known as Mister E., has been the central character in the Eels’ long, winding story. Following a stint as a solo artist in the early nineties, he drafted in a bass player and drummer Butch, and they rose to fame in ’96 on the back of the single ‘Novocaine for the Soul’, and then subsequent debut album ‘Beautiful Freak’ saw them being embraced by alternative crowds the world over.
Since then the roster of musicians has changed around E, and the albums have leapt from the dark introspection of ‘Electro-Shock Blues’ to the softer country tones of ‘Shootenanny’, and latest album ‘Blinking Lights and Other Revelations’ is a two-disc epic of shifting styles and moods. Also keep an eye out for Mister E moonlighting as a hip-hop aficionado under the name of MC Honky. On that basis, whatever happens next for Eels, it’s a safe bet that it’ll be unpredictable.
