The release date for the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man has been revealed.
Columbia Pictures has announced that a second installment of the rebooted franchise will be released on May 2, 2012.
The first weekend in May traditionally heralds the start of the summer blockbuster season.
Starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans, The Amazing Spider-Man is a reboot of the Sam Raimi franchise that starred Tobey Maguire in the titular role.
Speaking about the new Spider-Man at last month's Comic Con, Garfield said: "I think that we all wish we had the courage to stick up for ourselves more, to stick up for a loved one more, or even a stranger you see being mistreated, and Peter Parker has inspired me to feel stronger. He made me, Andrew, braver."
The Amazing Spider-Man is released on July 3, 2012.
