Actress Gwyneth Paltrow has paid tribute to her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, describing him as a “good dad”.

The couple, who married in December 2003, have two children, Apple, 7, and five-year-old Moses.

They rarely speak about their relationship, but Paltrow chose to open up about their private life in an interview with Elle magazine, admitting that sometimes it is “hard being with someone for a long time”.

“We go through periods that aren’t all rosy. I always say, life is long and you never know what’s going to happen,” she said.

But Paltrow said Martin was a wonderful father to their children and that she understood his commitment to Coldplay's fans.

“If, God forbid, we were ever not to be together, I respect him so much as the father of my children,” she said. "I made such a good choice. He’s such a good dad. You can never be relaxed or smug and think, I’ve got this thing.”

Paltrow added: “He makes music for his fans, and he doesn’t want people to conjure a lame famous couple when they’re getting into his music.  'I get it'.”

Coldplay are currently on a brief tour ahead of the release of their as-yet-untitled fifth album, due out later this year.

Meanwhile, Coldplay covered Amy Winehouse's 'Rehab' in tribute to the singer during an appearance at Splendour In The Grass festival in Australia.
