Plans to hold a public ceremony to celebrate the life of legendary author and journalist Hunter S Thompson have been scrapped.
Instead a private service will be held on August 20 at his Aspen ranch on the six-month anniversary of his death, reports breaking news.
Ceremony organiser Doug Brinkley said: “It got too tricky to morph symposium and ashes, so instead there is just the private service.”
Details of how to fire Thompson’s ashes by cannon-fire across his estate are still being discussed by a memorial committee.
The cannon will be topped by a 53 foot statue of Thompson’s trademark "gonzo" fist. Part of the funding will come from sales of a special Gonzo Beer. In typical debauched style the beer is 9.5% alcohol. Nice.
