1987 saw the birth of a ska band that was set to take the world by storm, in both the music and fashion stakes.
The original line up consisted of Eric Stefani on keyboards, Tony Kanal on bass and the now infamous Gwen Stefani getting her cherry red lips around the task of vocals and some might say also giving the band that certain je ne c'est quois.
Stefani was accompanied on vocals by John Spence till his tragic suicide just a year on. The band was later joined by Tom Dumont on guitar and Adrian Young on drums and signed to Interscope Records in 1991.
These days Gwen is often seen flying solo in various risqué outfits, accompanied – of course – by her ‘Harjuku Girls’ like an extremely stylish mother duck leading her little Japanese ducklings. More of that, no doubt, to come.
