The Cribs Having 'Identity Crisis' Over Next Album

The Cribs have admitted that they are suffering an “identity crisis” over what direction to go with their next album.

The Wakefield band are set to end their current touring schedule at this weekend's Reading and Leeds festivals.

Bassist Gary Jarman told Gigwise that they planned to take a break before returning to the studio to record the follow-up to 2009's 'Ignore The Ignorant'.

“It's like an identity crisis – I think we've got a few facets to us,” he said in an exclusive interview.

Jarman revealed that the group had discussed making individual solo records, but realised that “people want a new Cribs record”.

“With the Cribs, when we first started out it was just about doing what you want, and one part of me really just wants The Cribs to record a record in the basement – that's what we used to do,” he said.

“And then the other side of me wants to go to America and spend a couple of months in the studio making a big record. It's weird, I'm torn at the minute.”

Asked if he was keen to make a solo album, Jarman replied: “I've just go a big backlog of songs which I wouldn't use in the Cribs, and I feel like I could do because there's so many of them that have built up over the years that I haven't put out. So maybe one day.”

The Cribs perform at Leeds on Friday (August 27) and Reading on Saturday (August 28).
