Goldie Lookin Chain Slam Newport Spoof Of Jay-Z Song

Goldie Lookin Chain have hit back at a recent spoof of rapper Jay-Z's 'Empire State Of Mind'.

The Welsh hip-cop collective claim the parody, entitled 'Newport (Ymerodraeth State Of Mind)', misrepresents their city.

They have released their own version of the song, which they told Sky News shows the Welsh city as a “city thousand broken dreams”.

In the song, GLS member Rhys directly attacks MJ Delaney, who wrote the original spoof.

He raps: “You're not from Newport / You've probably never been there either / I'll bet you a fiver,” before adding: "You ripped off my style, but to be honest it made me smile."

MJ Delaney's version of 'Empire State Of Mind' has since been removed from YouTube following a copyright claim.

    • Yup, GLC seem to have missed the beauty of the spoof video. I guess they are just sore that they never thought of it.

    • The original seems to be funny to only English people. Its a bit like doing a song about London in a Bristol accent.
