Coldplay have said that they are “very pleased” that BBC 6 Music has been saved from closure.
The BBC Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyon today (July 5) rejected proposals for the digital station to be shut as part of budget cuts.
The band were one of a host of musicians who backed a campaign for the station to be saved when its proposed closure was first muted in March.
In a message on coldplay.com, the band praised fans who rallied for 6 Music to remain open.
"This was largely due to the enormous public opposition to the plans," they said.
“So, we'd like to offer heartfelt congratulations to everyone at 6 Music and a big thanks to all of you who took the trouble to contact the BBC Trust and voice your opinions.”
The group, who are currently recording their new album, added that 6 Music played “a crucial and unique role in British music”.
