February 01, 2010 by Jason Gregory

BBC Radio 1 is to broadcast a midweek chart show for the first time in its history.

Airing between 3.30pm and 4pm on Greg James's afternoon show, the Official Chart Update will reveal the biggest new entries and chart movers.

The programme will coincide with the publication of the Official Chart Company's traditional midweek update.

Martin Talbot, the managing director of the Official Charts Company, said the new show will “bring the chart to music fans across the country throughout the week”.

George Ergatoudis, Radio 1's head of music, said he hoped the update would “encourage fans to go out and support their favourite acts”.

The Official Chart Update will begin on March 10.

    • Brilliant programming decision Radio 1.Record sales are going down yet they base more of their air time on the increasingly outdated chart format.I bet Simon Cowell - et alia - are delighted.Massive fail radio one
