Music venue The Halfmoon in Putney has been saved from closure thanks partly to an 'exhaustive' Facebook campaign.
The venue, which has seen the likes of U2, Kate Bush and The Rolling Stones grace its stage over the years, was due to be closed and turned into a gastro-pub on January 31st.
However, thanks to huge public outcry, landlord Youngs have scrapped their plans to close it.
Venue tenant James Harris told the BBC: "This was never just about jobs but about a part of our music heritage."
Harris went on to explain that The Halfmoon has been hit hard by the recession recently but they have vowed to fight on.
"We still face tough times ahead, but at least we can move forward now, and my staff and myself are thrilled and excited," he added.
The Halfmoon, Putney has been hosting gigs regularly since 1963, but occassional performances date back to the 1920s.
