Axl Rose was “accosted by an unruly group of paparazzi” at LAX airport in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to a statement released on his behalf.
The Guns N' Roses frontman was involved in an altercation as he prepared to board a flight to Taipei, Taiwan.
US media reports have claimed Rose was provoked when two photographers began taking pictures of his entourage.
According to TMZ, Rose threw a punch at paparazzo, who claims to have video footage of the incident.
A statement published on the band's MySpace page said Rose's party were approached by “a group of unchecked and unruly photographers who became aggressive with the singer and female members of the travelling group”.
It added that Rose “was not injured during the unprovoked attack and was able to board his flight without further incident.”
Guns N' Roses are scheduled to play dates in Seoul, Osaka and Tokyo before Christmas.
The tour, the band's first in support of recent album 'Chinese Democracy', continues next year in Canada and South America.
