While most Premier League players think R Kelly is as good as music gets, Wolverhampton Wanderers shot-stopper Marcus Hahnemann says goalkeepers are a breed of metalheads.
The 37-year-old was spotted at a Five Finger Death Punch gig by Metal Hammer this week where he spoke of goalkeepers' mutual love of heavy metal.
Hahnemann said: “My favourite bands for a while have been Tool, Slipknot and Machine Head, and now I’d say Five Finger Death Punch too.
“I was recommended to check them out by (former Spurs and Fulham goalkeeper) Kasey Keller this summer, and I’ve been loving it since… although my wife isn’t!”
He continued to the magazine: “Most other players at the club like a lot of the top 40 music; pop, R&B, rap, stuff like that.
"Goalkeepers, though, we’re a different breed! Jamie Young, who I played with at Reading is a metalhead too, but unfortunately he couldn’t make the show tonight.
“When you wanna get psyched up for training or for a game, you gotta listen to something that gets you going, and for me that’s metal. It gets me pumped up for performing in front of a crowd.”
