Wide-eyed Robbie Williams has insisted he was not high during his recent performance on The X Factor.
The singer, who has a history of drug problems, sparked fears among fans when he appeared wide-eyed as he sang comeback single Bodies.
However, in an interview with the Daily Mirror, Williams said all he had consumed before the performance was coffee.
"People are alluding to the fact that I may have been high on something but I can only say I wasn't - because I wasn't,” he said.
“Unless someone spiked my drink and I would have noticed. I know what various drugs feel like.”
The former Take That star revealed that he had always felt nervous when performing but admitted he was no longer able to “mask it”.
"I didn't feel like the seasoned pro I am. It felt a bit alien. I maybe should've done a few other shows before the big one,” the singer said.
Williams is due to play his first full gig in more than three years at the Camden Roundhouse in London on Tuesday.
Bodies, the first song from the singer's new album Reality Killed The Video Star, entered at number two on the UK singles chart on Sunday.
