Editors: 'We're Not Selling Out By Doing Twilight New Moon Soundtrack' - Exclusive Add to My Fav Bands List

Editors frontman Tom Smith has insisted the band are not “selling out” by appearing on the soundtrack to The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

The group re-worked a song called ‘No Sound But The Wind’ for the forthcoming teen vampire film after being approached by director Chris Weitz.

The soundtrack, which is due out in November, also includes new or specially recorded songs by Muse, Thom Yorke and The Killers.

Speaking exclusively to Gigwise, Smith said: “The films aren’t aimed at people our age but I look at the bands that we’re next to on that soundtrack and it’s just a good thing.

“It’s not selling out, it’s not putting your song on an advert or selling a product.

“It’s just being part of something that, to me, as collective seems like a pretty attractive thing.”

New Moon is the second instalment of the vampire franchise, which stars British actor Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart

‘Personally invited’

In an exclusive interview with Gigwise, Smith revealed that Weitz invited Editors to contribute the soundtrack via email.

But the singer said he was initially unsure about the project because the director asked him to change some of the lyrics in the song, which was originally inspired by Cormac McCarthy’s 2006 novel, The Road.

“At first, I was like, fuck off, there’s no way,” Smith said.

“But I went back and I thought about the lyrics and I recorded it slightly differently and I actually think the lyrics flow better now than they ever did and it will now be on the film.”

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is due to be released in cinemas worldwide on November 20.

Editors release their new album 'In This Light and On The Evening' on October 12.

  • I'm annoyed by this. I can't see what's wrong with being on a soundtrack?? nobody would care if it was any other film.
