Kanye West's outburst at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday has upset former US president Jimmy Carter.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Georgia, Carter said West's decision to interrupt Taylor Swift's acceptance speech was “completely uncalled for”.
According to CNN, Carter, who served as the 39th president of the United States from 1977 to 1981, added that West's “punishment was to appear on the new Jay Leno show”.
He is the second US president to criticse West over his outburst.
On Monday, President Obama called West a “jackass” during an off-the-record segment of an interview with CNBC.
The president's comment entered the public domain after it was relayed by ABC journalist Terry Moran on Twitter.
