DJ AM had nine painkillers in his mouth when he died, it's been reported.
The DJ, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his New York City apartment last Friday.
Goldstein's cause of death has been deferred pending the results of toxicology tests.
But according to People magazine the DJ had eight undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach and a ninth in his mouth.
A crack pipe and evidence of the drug was also apparently found near to the DJ's body.
A police source said it was suspected that Goldstein “wanted to die”, adding: "He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn't even swallow it."
US media reports have claimed the DJ was struggling to deal with his split from girlfriend Haley Wood.
People reported that police also found a 2009 Valentine's Day card from Wood, as well as pictures of the former couple together.
Goldstein's death came almost a year after he and Blink-182's Travis Barker survived a plane crash in South Carolina which killed four other people.
