Noel Gallagher has quit Oasis, the guitarist and band founder has confirmed in statement tonight (August 28).
Speaking on the band's official website, Noel wrote: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.
"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."
Speculation was rife about the future of Oasis when their headline show at V Festival Chelmsford was axed at the eleventh hour last Sunday.
The cancellation was blamed on Liam Gallagher suffering form viral laryngitis, although some Oasis fans doubted this news blaming an in band feud.
The Gallagher brothers, of course, have suffered a fractious relationship in recent years. It's reported that the only time they have spoke to each other in recent months was during live shows.
Let Gigwise know your thoughts about Oasis' split below. Were they one of the greatest bands of our generation? Or a hyperbole of media hype?
