Them Crooked Vultures, the supergroup featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin took to the stage for the first time in the UK last night in a secret support slot for Arctic Monkeys.
Rumours had been circulating that the trio, plus guitarist Alan Johannes, would be the billed 'Very Special Guests' but it wasn't until Dave Grohl took to the stage to rapturous applause that things really got going.
The band played for three quarters of an hour and fired through a succession of thunderous metal accompanied by prog forays and melodic choruses.
Josh Homme, who fronts the band, was in fine form urging the crowd gathered to "You can do whatever you want tonight," then turning his famous temper on a bouncer saying, "This guy works for me, he might be smiling but I'll fire his ass. If you want to dance, dance, you're supposed to have a good time."
Some of the songs Them Crooked Vultures played included 'Caligulove', 'Mind Eraser', 'Gunman', 'Nobody Loves Me, Neither Do I' and the epic 'Daffodil'.
As the set came to an end Josh Homme thanked everybody for coming to see them as the crowd applauded three iconic rock figures.
Rumours now suggest Them Crooked Vultures may make a special appearance at this weekend Reading and Leeds Festivals.
