Sir Paul McCartney has described the public's perception of John Lennon's as “seriously flawed”.
In an interview with the Radio Times, Sir Paul said his late Beatles bandmate was often misrepresented by the media.
He also insisted that, contrary to popular opinion, the pair enjoyed a strong relationship.
"He was a very soft-centred guy and we had a lot in common,” Sir Paul said.
"Whatever bad things John said about me, he would also slip his glasses to the end of his nose and say, 'I love you'."
When asked about rumours that he and Lennon became rivals further into their careers, Sir Paul replied: "Oh, he was on drugs, wasn't he? This is the trouble with history, with journalism.
"John said so much crap that he later said he hadn't meant. It's bullshit.
"The image of John is seriously flawed because he was not the hard, mad man that people think he was."
Lennon was shot dead outside his apartment in New York in December 1980.

- Paul Mccartney is a Complete fake, he is trying to buy peoples love and respect in him by blurting his new sound "Lennon loved me", he wants to be just as important and profoundly loved just as the greatest artist of the 20th century John Lennon is. well he will never ever be as much to the world as John Lennon was. not even half.

- i think that they were all absolutely amazing musicians together and they wouldnt have been the beatles if there was no paul, or no john, or no ringo or no george!
i think its touching what lennon said to paul ' i love you' cos it shows how all of them were just human and even they make mistakes , but i must say that were outstanding and super-talented humans and they cahnged music forever. they are the best band in the world and will always be rememeber !

- How is Paul a fake?? How ridiculous! McCartney doesnt need to try and get the worldwide fame or the love that John had because he as it anyway! John Lennon was My favourite beatle, Paul was a genius but John was a god! But both as equally important to the Beatles phenomenom!

- Do you really believe this is Paul McCartney?

- The reality is that Jay Leno is seen as the top Beatle, and he will always remain the most immortal member of that band. He was as big as jesus. mcCartney should have stopped writing music as soon as he left the Beatles. It seems he's trying to take credit for some of the things he thinks we tought John did, instead of him. You gotta like a guy who likes a spliff though.
